Born with a yearning to soar through the skies and gallop alongside horses, Sasha Spielvogel’s childhood dreams found their earthly manifestation in the art of dance. Hailing from New Haven, Connecticut, Sasha is the offspring of resilience and intellect – a daughter of a Holocaust survivor turned city planner, and a mother who earned a doctorate in Art History from Yale University.
Educated at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study where she received her BA, Sasha’s journey in New York led her to study with such dance luminaries as Paul Sanasardo, Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Diane Germaine and Manuel Alum. A theater workshop with the singular Anthony Abeson during Freshman year at Skidmore College greatly influenced Ms. Spielvogel’s artistic development. Though she initially danced under the direction of others, the call of her inner cosmos became too compelling to ignore. Choreography became not just a pursuit but a necessity – a vehicle through which she could explore the depths of her creative spirit; a form of catharsis, guiding audiences through intricate labyrinths of the psyche, urging them to confront their innermost struggles and emerge into the light of clarity.
Married to the composer David Burger, Sasha resides in Queens, NYC, where artistic and familial bonds intertwine. Their daughter Jullian, follows in her parents’ footsteps, immersing herself in the world of theater and film.
Sasha Spielvogel’s journey is not merely one of choreography but of transformation, a testament to the power of artistic expression to illuminate the human experience.
